Can I bring a date?

Are kids welcome?
Yes! We aren't sure we'll have childcare, so they'll be in your care by default, but we'll see how many kids are coming. Regardless, they're very welcome.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
Both — outdoors by default, but the venue can go fully indoors if needed.

What's the weather like in November in Berkeley?
November in Berkeley is cool and mild, marking the start of the rainy season with typical daily highs around 60°F and lows in the mid-40s to low 50s. While many days are pleasant, expect occasional rainfall and generally comfortable, breezy conditions.

About Us

Howie and Chana met in the summer of 2018 in San Francisco. Their first date, precipitated by reciprocity.io (now reciprocity.pro), took place on New Year's Eve, 2019, chaperoned by Kate Donovan in a studio apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

After a one-week first date, they decided to not be officially dating for two weeks, so as to be sensible about things like this. Chana spent much of those two weeks extremely stressed, but also besotted.

After a very exciting phone call, they started officially dating — first long distance from San Francisco to New York, then from New York to London, and then finally in 2021 (after being not so long distance during the pandemic), Chana moved to London, where they lived until 2023. They now live in Berkeley together.

Howie got Chana into horror movies and video games. Chana got Howie into immersive theater, escape rooms, and puzzles. So now they do a lot of horror immersive theater and scary puzzle-based video games.

"I love you" was said with a custom crossword. The engagement involved custom puzzles from The Witness and a custom character from Inscryption.

Howie read Infinite Jest to Chana. Chana read Unsong to Howie. They're now in the middle of Anna Karenina (Howie reading) and House of Leaves (Chana reading).

They share a delight in animals (though no one can match the Disney prince effect that Howie has on wildlife) and values around impartial good, sentient creatures everywhere, the immensity and importance of the far future and, of course, doing the math.

Getting Here

By air: The closest airports are Oakland International (OAK), about 25 minutes away, and San Francisco International (SFO), about 45 minutes away. Both connect to Berkeley via BART.

By transit: Berkeley is well served by BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit). The North Berkeley station is the closest stop. The venue is about a 6-minute drive from North Berkeley.
